The Developer behind the Africa Travel Blog

Creator of The Africa Travel Blog The Africa Travel Blog is designed and developed by me, Hakon Kavli. I am a 24 year old man with a passion for life, travel, exploring the world, learning to know cultures, places and people. Actually I like to learn about everything. I even like physics and math. And to share all of these passions with, I have my beautiful, wonderful girlfriend, Eleyce, who I now live with in San Diego.

I have not always lived in San Diego, though. I was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Nittedal, close to Oslo, in Norway. I have also lived in Cape Town, South Africa, for about six months, and will move back there for at least two years in January 2010.

Apart from living at different places, I have a decent amount of travel experience. At the age of 17 I traveled through Europe by train for a few weeks. At 18 years old I traveled for 4 months in Southeast Asia, visiting Thailand, Malaysia, and Bali and Lombok in Indonesia. About a year and a half later I had another trip around in Europe by train for 2-3 weeks. The next trip was 10 weeks of traveling and working in Guatemala and Mexico.

The last and best adventure so far was 6 months in Southern Africa, with school and travel. During these six months we had more than two months of backpacking around, visiting Swaziland, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia and of course South Africa. These are all travels I have done on my own, with friends or with my wonderful girlfriend, Eleyce. But I also have some interesting travel experience with my family, including Jamaica, Kenya, Zanzibar and Vietnam. Plus several shorter trips in Europe, California, etc.

In June 2008 I graduated from the University of Oslo with a bachelor’s degree in Development Studies. And the plan is to continue my education in South Africa at the University of Cape Town’s School of Economics. So if it all works out right, I will have a Masters Degree in Economics with a focus on Africa’s Tourism Industry by December 2011.

As you can see, most of my hobbies relate to travel. And that is what I want my professional life to be about as well. That is why I see myself working in, running, or even owning (!) a successful travel business one day in the future!

Thank you for reading this little introduction to myself. I hope you will continue by reading the rest of what I have posted on the Worlds #1 Africa Travel Blog!

Kindest Regards,

Hakon

I do not appreciate the negative video on our former President. I do not htink it has its place on your professional blog. Other than that, great job!

Good point. The video is actually a remnant from the earlier days of the blog, and I think you are right: it might be time for the blog to loose it’s baby humor and grow into a more professional blog. Though, I do not think the video is negative, it’s a celebration of our leaders’ human sides!

Otherwise, thank you very much for the nice words! It means a lot, coming from people in the travel industry!!

PS: The video will now be replaced with one that’s appropriate for this blog.
