The past few days I have been thinking about what would be the perfect one week itinerary for a self drive in the Okavango, Chobe and Vic Falls region. The reason I have been thinking about this is, naturally, that I intend to do it. In March next year, my family will come down to South Africa, and I want to take them out on a little African adventure. The problem is that we only have one week to see everything! – A common problem in the travel world..
So this is where you come in! Do you have any tips for us??
Any places we must see in Chobe or Okavango? Safari camps, routes, etc?
Any good rental companies where we can find a reliable 4×4? (It should be based in Livingstone or Maun).
I will keep updating this post with all good tips that come in (either from twitter, email or comments on this post). And if you have a website or twitter, please let me know and I will credit your tips with your links.
Thank you very much!!

A very good 4×4 hire company in Maun is Maun Self Drive 4×4. http://maunselfdrive4×4.webs.com/
They have fully equipped landrovers that include roof top tents. Be sure to get the Botswana Tracks4Africa map too so you won’t have issues naviagating. A week isn’t a whole lot of time. I would fly into Vic Falls or Livingstone in the AM. See the falls. Get a transfer to Kasane- Chanters Lodge has someone they work with that is reliable, pickup your 4×4 hire vehicle and do Chobe for the day, an evening boat cruise on the Zambezi River, and off for Savute and Moremi the next AM.
Thank you very much for the tips! This is very helpful.
I will definitely check out Maun Self Drive 4×4 and Kasane Chanters Lodge. Thanks again!
We’ll be up in Botswana in March as well – fingers crossed the weather is good so the roads aren’t too bad for driving on. I’m only just beginning to plan this part of our trip – there seems to be so much to see up there I’m a little overwhelmed!
Keep us posted if you can on what you decide to do – we’ve got a bit more time up there (about 2.5 weeks) which is nice…
