Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Retreat
Africa’s Best Luxury Resort? -Bushman’s Kloof Wilderness Reserve and Wellness Retreat
This is how Bushman’s Kloof describe their lodge:
“Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Retreat, located 270 kilometres from Cape Town, is a 5-star ecological oasis, uniting luxury and nature, providing the ultimate wilderness experience.”

After Travel+Leisure’s readers voted this retreat all the way to the top, I am very willing to trust every word Bushman’s Kloof use to describe themselves. And a five star ecological oasis in South Africa’s Cederberg Mountains sounds perfectly fine with me. They also have what they call an “open air art gallery” where you can see rock art made by humans thousands of years ago. And this art is only available for the resorts guests, plus archeologists and researchers of course. You can also see great wildlife while staying at the lodge, but at the same time feel safe: there are no big predators in the area. So if you are looking for the big five, you are at the wrong place. What you will see is zebras, ostrich, Bontebok, Red Hartebeest, and many more “boks” and “beests”.

If animals are not your thing to start with, there is no reason to decline a stay at Busman’s Kloof. Notice that it’s called wilderness reserve and wellness retreat! They offer all sorts of wellness treatments and even have an amazing outdoors spa. Activities at the resort can range from fly fishing, hiking and mountain biking, to sunset drives, photography, writing or just enjoying the pool and great cuisine.
And if you wondered about the quality of their rooms. Well, I have never stayed there so I can’t really say much. But I think these pictures speak for themselves:

What is your favorite resort in Africa? Let us know!
These are all incredibly beautiful Game Lodges, my favourite Game Lodge is Lukimbi Safari Lodge in the southern part of the Kruger National Park, not only because of the unique and open architecture, but because of they way of working. They have the BEE in place for staff, which shines through when you are being looked after by them.
They also won the Concession of the Year award this year because of their work within their environment and what they have been putting back into the community, conservation ect.
The lodge accepts children and is the perfect wedding location, where else in the world can you get married in the proximity of the Big Five, than in Africa!
Bushman’s Kloff looks beautiful in the pictures above. The rooms looks great. I really like the supreme suite. It seems very relaxing!
Yeah, I have to agree with you Jennifer; This resort looks like the most relaxing and comfortable place I can imagine..!
My personal favourite is the Etali Safari Lodge in the Madikwe Game Reserve. It’s truly spectacular, I have visited there twice now and would still go back again!
