Can’t get any sleep at night because you are one of those people who love going out at night to chill out and may be even shake a leg ? Get your dancing shoes and your club wear to come to the lovely Cape Town. This fun city is filled with discotheques and clubs with live music.

There is always something big thats happening in the Cape Town nightlife. Usually catching up on the ‘Cape Time’s on Friday , lets you in on whats hot and happening over the weekend.

The city has a very laid back and relaxed attitude. Not being completely commercialized, there aren’t hundreds of clubs and bars around every corner of town. Although there are more than enough, to keep the people more than on their feet and happy, whether they are the local folk or tourists!!

  • Opium, one of the most popular clubs is the Greenpoint area has a cigar bar along with a whiskey lounge. A host of regular events keep happening here.
  • Towards Greenpoint, on the Somerset Road, go and visit the Buddha Bar and the Buena Vista Social Club for a classic Cuban feel.
  • The biggest nightclub of Africa is The dockside. The temple-like building houses a gigantic discotheque for up to 5000 people with bars, restaurants and conference facilities. Big theme parties and live music are quite popular here.

The bars in the city- stay open late and the party usually starts after 11pm. Most restaurants are open till midnight, some even later.

  • If you want a wild night of gambling, wining and dining, then head to the Grand West Casino . Cinemas as well as fancy dining restaurants are famous here at the Casino.
  • Head to the Caprice or Sandbar for a sundowner and a host of other cocktails. These are located along the Camps Bay strip.
  • Wafu, located in Mouille Point; has a fantastic wooden deck which overlooks the sea.It is perfect for chilling with a cocktaik and while you are here, try some of their specialty Asian ‘Tapas’.
  • If exotic cocktails, champagne, caviar and oysters then the perfect place for you to be at is the Planet bar at the Mount Nelson hotel.
  • Located on Kloof Street, is Asoka Son of Dharma. This is an ultra-sophisticated lounge and bar with an upmarket and yet comfortable feel.
  • At the at Quay Four and Ferrimans, experience live Jazz at the Green Dolphin restaurant which has a lively dinner and pub atmosphere
  • Located in Greenpoint, Pulse is a famous sports bar featuring good food,dancing and big screen sports events.
  • In the southern suburbs you will find a handful of venues that mostly locals comes to including Cubana Cafe on Claremont Main Road and the Forrester’s Arms pub and De Wijnhuis wine bar in Newlands.
  • Near the observatory, you will find a collection of hippie and student type bars including Rolling Stones pool hall.
